How can I decline a position in my company, without commiting career suicide?

I have found the niche I want to be in and have no real deisre to change positions in the company. However, my management wishing to ist and move along my career, have recomended me to another position in my company that leads to management track. I have no desire to be in management, yet to refuse could insult those who hold my career in hand, should I decide make a change or desire advancement, raises etc
