How could Pascal not have noticed how silly his wager is?

It's not like he was a stupid man or we wouldn't be talking about him today, right? He also wasn't the last to use the wager. You guys think we're just confounded by your replies but still today professors of theology are posing the same wager. I guess they didn't check Yahoo Answers because they believe it has yet to be debunked.
