How to change over the summer...?

i want to change my look over the summer. i don't know what i should do at all. i am not into clothes or hair stuff so i need help. i am gonn abe a jr in high school and prom is coming up and i just want to be noticed for something good. so i have light brown skin and brown eyes, with someHighlights in my hair from last year on top of my medium ashy brown hair. i am okay with dyeing my hair, and i straighten it b/c i have oober curly hair. i think i need to know what colors i should stay away from and colors i should wear of makeup and clothes.so please help and what hairstyles are cute b/c i have no clue...
