What ways can i save energy in my apartment?

i have an average sized apartment, (sorry, i don't have the mesurments), but a third floor three bedroom, and my heating bill from last month was nearly three hundred dollars!! what ways can i bring down my heating bill? it's an old building, and i'm not allowed to make alterations. we already turn down the heat when we're not there or at night. thanks in advance!
